Julia has a BA and MA in linguistics from the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa. Her Master’s thesis explored how language attrition in bilingual speakers is connected to long term changes in language use. As a graduate student, she co-chaired the 13th Graduate Student Conference of the College of Languages, Linguistics, and Literature.
After graduating, Julia taught middle school math and science and at Le Jardin Academy.
Julia has edited two UH Board of Publications journals, Hawai‘i Review and Kalamakua, as well as Vice-Versa, and her poetry has been published in national and international journals. Julia is also a member of the Kanu Fellows Program, an initiative focused on education in public policy and legislative change.
