Legal Databases by Title

The Law Library subscribes to several online databases to supplement its collection and to facilitate faculty and student research. These databases expedite access to legal information. Remote access through a proxy server is available for some databases via the Law Library web page. For a few databases, a password is required.

American State Papers The American State Papers, comprising a total of thirty-eight physical volumes, contain the legislative and executive documents of Congress during the period 1789 to 1838. The collection includes documents that cover the critical historical gap from 1789 to the printing of the first volume of the U.S. Serial Set in 1817.  
AudioCaseFiles & Courtroom View Network AudioCaseFiles provides downloadable MP3 files of court opinions, searchable by subject or casebook. You can put them on a CD or MP3 player and listen to audio case law. You may also watch streaming courtroom videos of real cases. Sign in and click on "Courtroom Video" at the top. Under Browse, click on All Cases to see a list of all cases (over 400). After selecting the case, click on "View Video". Register at and input your student or faculty information and law school. NOTE: You must use your Law School provided email address. You will get a verification email and a confirmation link that must be clicked to complete registration.

Provides all Casemaker products and services at no charge. 475,000 attorneys are connected through the Casemaker Bar consortium. Casemaker has state and federal legal research materials and a Hawai`i library designed by the Hawai`i State Bar Association.

The Center for Computer-Assisted Legal Instruction (CALI)

The CALI Library of Lessons is a collection of over 700 interactive tutorials covering 33 legal education subject areas. The lessons are designed to augment traditional law school instruction and can be used as supplemental study material. The lessons are written by law faculty and librarians and are regularly reviewed and revised. The format of the individual lessons varies according to the educational objectives of the author. Some authors use the setting of a simulated trial to provide students with an opportunity to test their understanding of an area of law. Other lessons drill students through a series of questions requiring them to identify relevant issues and apply recently learned concepts.

Columbia International Affairs Online (CIAO) is the most comprehensive source for theory and research in international affairs. Foreign Law Guide


The Foreign Law Guide provides links to primary and secondary sources of law for over 190 countries.It  provides links to English translations of legal materials from each country. The database also contains bibliographical information on many international conventions and treaties. Users can search by country name or by searching for specific areas of law.

Hawai‘i Labor & Industrial Relations Appeals Board Index

The Appeals Board Index is a cumulative alphabetical and topical index of decisions issued by the State of Hawaii, Labor & Industrial Relations Appeals Board. It includes the following and all lists link to a summary of the case and to the actual decision in cases decided after 1/1/2002. Decisions are sorted in various ways eg. by date, governing statute, type of injury, employer, claimant, expert’s name, etc.

This database of select U.S. court cases and related materials is an excellent resource for understanding how international law is interpreted and applied to U.S. courts at both the federal and state level.

This is the online version of Current Law Index. It indexes articles from over 1,300 legal periodicals including legal newspapers from 1980 to the present. SmartCILP This is a current awareness service that provides automated personalized email delivery of the Current Index to Legal Periodicals. After setting up a SmartCILP profile, you will receive an additional email message each week that focuses only on the subject headings and journals you select. Westlaw China is a comprehensive Chinese legal information database built for Western practitioners.

Information is available in both English and Chinese.  The database incorporates many of the features of which is familiar to both practitioners and scholars in the United States (headnotes, status icons, etc.).  This database provides access to statutory, regulatory and case law materials in the PRC and Hong Kong by keyword and by legal topic.  You can also access journals, articles and books through this portal.
