When is the application due?

Please see Admissions. We will consider late applications if spaces are available.

May I apply?

You may apply if you have completed your first year of coursework at an ABA-accredited law school or recognized Canadian law school, and are currently in good standing there.

How do I apply?

  1. Complete the catalog and application form

  2. Obtain a Letter of Good Standing from your academic dean or registrar that indicates your class year.

  3. Email, fax, or mail these items to the Hawai‘i Summer Law Program.

NOTE: There is no deposit or application fee.

How will I be graded?

We use the 4.0 grading system.

Will my grades transfer to my home law school?

Please consult with your home law school about transferring credits and grades you earn in our program.  Many schools will accept grades of 2.0 or higher for credit, but will not include the grades in your overall GPA.

How much does it cost?

Please see Summer Law Tuition & Financial Aid.

Is financial aid available?

Please see Summer Law Tuition & Financial Aid.

May I do a summer externship?

Externships are generally limited to UH Law students.  The Externship Director will consider non-UH Law students on a case-by-case basis. Externships are offered for two, four, and six credits.

What travel and housing arrangements will I need to make?

You will need to make and pay for your travel and housing arrangements.   Please consider the cost of travel, books, meals, and other miscellaneous expenses when you make your budget.  In April, we will send you information about suggested travel arrangements to Hawai‘i, transportation from the airport to the Law School, what to pack, and how to get the most out of the Hawai‘i experience.

Will I get a refund if I decide not to go?

You will receive a full refund if your cancellation letter is postmarked by May 3.  We will not usually give refunds for cancellations or withdrawals after May 3.
